  1. Writing Clearly: An Editing Guide, 2nd edition, by Janet Lane and Ellen Lange
  2. A three ring-binder with dividers
  3. An English-Language Dictionary

  4. Pen and/or sharp pencil. 



Objectives

Differentiate between global and local errors

Identify individual patterns of grammar errors

Categorize a variety of self-editing strategies

Recognize English grammar and usage

Clarify and strengthen written communication skills

Demonstrate reading, writing, and critical thinking skills used 

in academic writing tasks.


Attendance: College students are expected to attend all sessions of their courses. You may be dropped from the courses if you have more than 3 unexcused absences. Please notify Mr. Butera if you are dropping the course voluntarily. There will be some graded activity or immediate preparation for every class. Thus, your grade will necessarily drop if you are absent and you fail to keep up with the course work.

Absent: If you absent or late, it is up to you to find out from your classmates what assignments or activities that were done in class or will due for the following class. You can always refer to the class website as an additional resource.

Make-ups: Each student will be allowed to make up only two (2) graded activities. There will be no make-ups allowed for the mid-term or final (except for extreme hardship cases).

Grading: Grades will be based upon class participation, graded activities, quizzes and exams.

Cheating: Anyone caught cheating on an examination (this includes helping another to cheat) will fail. Anyone caught cheating on the course final will not pass the course. There will be no appeal to this policy.
